I survived my first 4 holidays away from home!

Wow, I haven't posted since before Christmas. Well, like anywhere else the holiday season is just as busy here. Not necessarily in the same way, but still kinda is. Halloween obviously wasn't too hard to be away from home for so when I say 4 I really mean my mom's birthday. I didn't deal with it as well as I thought I would, it was the first time since I can remember I haven't been there or gotten to do something for her. My first real bout of homesickness. Thanksgiving was tough but fun. I got to be with my China family out here, we even got turkey and stuffing and Brianne actually pureed pumpkin by hand for pumpkin pie. She's an amazing person and I am so lucky to have her in my life. She puts up with my homesick rants for the holidays. Christmas just didn't really feel like Christmas... the lack of snow and celebration just kind of made it unreal. I realized talking to people from all over the world that I really am spoiled in getting to experience a white, snowy Christmas, I guess I never really realized that wasn't the norm. Brianne cooked again and so I did get to spend Christmas Eve with my China family which was wonderful. I even brought over my laptop because Netflix had the burning yule log "series" to play on the TV.
My first package from home!! After 2 weeks of sitting at the post office... Thanks for not letting me know...

And finally, New Years, also not as hard of a holiday to be away from home, it was bittersweet hearing about all my friends' plans and the cool things they got to do that I couldn't be there for but I got to go out and do the NYE thing here with a close friend. It was fun and the night ended wonderfully. Plus, getting the first off making it a three day weekend is awesome. For the first time in years I woke up on New Years day with no hangover or anything. Actually, I woke up and cleaned my apartment... Adulthood creeps up on ya at the strangest moments...

However, we've got to go a little further back in time because I got to go to Hong Kong, and that means Disneyland Hong Kong. Sadly, I've also been spoiled in getting to go to Disneyland and Disney World back in the states because it doesn't quite compare but it was an amazing time with some of my favorite people. And, it rained the whole time we were there. But, Space Mountain is there and is just as awesome. Chinese people hate getting wet and it was a weekend so lines weren't bad at all. We were all completely soaked by the end of the day but it was totally worth it. Josh and I stayed the night in this disgusting little hostel room so we could explore a little more of Hong Kong the next day. By disgusting, I mean cockroaches climbing out of the wall disgusting. I've learned my lesson, do a little more research about hostels, and never stay in the one again. Ew. I survived, though! Which is the important part after all. haha. The next day it was all sunshine and nice weather which was good because Josh and I found the shoe district (I left 3 pairs of shoes richer... one pair of boots, one pair of adidas, and a pair of hot pink Cons). Josh was happy because we found him a PS4 and some new kicks, too. He is a good shopping buddy, which is great, because he doesn't complain when I see things and get distracted by shiny stuff because he's usually just as excited as me about all of it! And he is perfect to geek out with (he totally out geeks me but, he totally understands my geekdom and occasionally lack thereof).

Soaked and happy! The craziest thing happened in this picture, it looks light out but the sun had already been going down.

It was a marvelous time and I can't wait to go back to Hong Kong.

Violinist with a DJ playing Christmas music in a plaza in Hong Kong, outside of where Josh and I got lunch

Yeah...it was bigger than my mouth and completely delicious. Grilled cheese sandwiches were the "bun," 2 beef patties with bacon and tomato and pickle and oh my god. Also, Dr. Pepper. *drool*

When you hear "DO-DO-DO," please STOP.. Oh, I thought that was "Don't, Don't Don,t"... haha

Caution, Scald Bums! Yikes! hahahaha
